Bill Mitchell hails from Minnesota and thinks science is pretty neat.  That might explain why he has a PhD in chemistry, and why he enjoys Earth science, birding, and ham radio.

In March/April 2016, he went on a research and radio expedition to Heard Island, a glacier-covered volcanic island with penguins in the southern Indian ocean.
